Salad Night

Thursday is Salad Night. Why? Because dinner is, and probably always will be, the running joke of most households. What’s for dinner? Who makes it? Is it healthy? And, of course, that again???

We landed on Salad Night one night when we couldn’t easily answer those questions, so we decided that just having a big salad as dinner was the answer. Fresh Express makes various salad kits with greenery, nuts and/or fruits and dressing. Easy-peasy, tasty, cheesy. No, really. Some actually have cheese as a taste addition.

Cinematic connection: in Jerry Seinfeld’s 2007 Bee Movie, Patrick Warburton’s character screams in frustration “Why does yogurt night have to be so difficult?!” when his standing date is derailed. That became our go-to rant for any- and everything that upsets an evening’s easy flow: Too much laundry? Cable TV out? Forgot to pick up meds? Yes, vent about the difficulty of Yogurt Night! Well, Yogurt Night may be eternally difficult but as for salad night, it’s always easy-peasy and often cheesy. Wait a minute; cheddar or gorgonzola??? Is Salad Night becoming… difficult?

Happy New Year!

Yes, Happy New Year! It’s still January so giving that greeting hasn’t grown old yet.

I have noticed that this blog has been long neglected. Almost two years neglected. I know, that is a shame since it is my main blog and my family blog. Without me and my family, the other blogs would not exist. So, let me jump start this and make a solid attempt to keep it moving.

So sorry for the delay.

First Football

Football. Okay, not exactly my interest, but being that my Junior ROTC daughter was in the Color Guard, I was eager to go… then make an early exit. But, the family wanted to stay through Half Time, so I settled in to let the clock wind down. However, once the band marched out, Color Guard in tow, and starting playing, I realized that this was going to be thrilling, to say the least. Blake High School’s band was called “the Cadillac of high school bands,” by the announcer, and they lived up to his praise. They are simply fantastic! We ended up staying for the entire game, entertained by the band and the exciting gridiron performance.

My daughter, Kalena, carried a rifle in the Color Guard for Blake’s first football game.

At the end of the fourth quarter, Blake took the win with 27 points to 16.

Air Force Junior ROTC

I was very surprised and completely overjoyed to learn that my geek and techie daughter decided to join Howard W. Blake High School’s Air Force Junior ROTC program. As an actor, singer and artist, such a career and education option seemed totally out of character. However, upon deeper reflection, I can see why and how she could arrive at such a choice.

From a logical stand point, it will give her skills and discipline that will aid her in life and career. Of course, there is the educational benefits, such as covering college. Then there is the area of serving one’s country. Being born in the early sixties, I registered for the draft, though I never served. To this day, it is one of my biggest regrets. To see that my daughter is stepping up, on her own decision at fourteen, to at least start the journey to learn if it’s the path for her is heartwarming. I am very proud of her, to say the least.

Church, it’s what’s for New Year’s!

Working to 10pm at Animal Kingdom may slow me down but won’t stop me from ringing in the New Year at my church home, Exalted Word Ministries. Happy New Year, one and all! (Jan. 1, 2016 12:49 am)
